St Michel is a small village to the
West of the Marais Poitevin, known as the “Green Venice”,
France’s
largest area of reclaimed land criss crossed with man made drainage
canals. It is 6kms to the nearest coast at L’Aiguillon sur Mer
anonly 8kms from the superb sandy beaches at La Faute sur Mer. The
nearest large town is Lucon
15kms away.
The village has everything that you
need for day to day, a small general store, a butcher, a bar, a superb
restaurant, bakery shops as well as a bank and cash machines. The bar
in the village square is ideal to while away an hour over a café au
lait or a beer.
Recreation in the village is provided
by tennis courts, the Plan d’Eau for fishing, walking, a floodlit
bouledrome and if you feel fit enough the Health Walk comprising of a
walk with various exercise “opportunities” on the way.
The Hermitage is situated central
to the village, on a quiet road away from any through traffic.
